The dedicated team of local volunteers who have been clearing litter from key Benalla hotspots for 16 years are calling for additional volunteers to help keep Benalla tidy and welcoming.
At the recent celebration to commemorate 16 years of service, ‘The Litter Gatherers’ were congratulated by Mayor, Cr Don Firth for their efforts in both clean-up and prevention since 2001.
"Litter not only looks bad, but washes into our waterways and threatens our wildlife," said Cr Don Firth.
"We value the huge contribution that volunteers make, and the Litter Gatherers are a prime example of how important volunteers are to our community," said Cr Firth.
The Litter Gatherers welcome the support of community members or groups. Volunteers enjoy the flexibility of locations and times, are equipped with personal protective equipment and litter collection gear, and receive health and safety training.
"Anyone can be part of the solution and make a real difference. You only need one hour a fortnight to join efforts to keep our town litter free," said Cr Firth.
