Emergency Management
Benalla Rural City, like all regions, is susceptible to emergencies. The economic and social effects of emergencies including loss of life, destruction of property, and dislocation of communities are inevitable - hazards exist within all communities.
The Victorian Emergency Management Act 1986 requires that Councils across Victoria prepare and maintain a Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).
Benalla Rural City's Municipal Emergency Plan sets out key roles and responsibilities during an emergency and how Council works with other support agencies and emergency services. It addresses emergency prevention as well as response and recovery. The Plan is the result of the cooperative efforts of the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee with assistance from the Victoria State Emergency Service's North East Regional Office.
