Infectious Disease Control
We provide advice to minimise the risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases through inspections, sampling, and providing advice to businesses.
If you would like information about a specific infectious disease, go to the Department of Health ‘Blue Book’ list of infectious diseases, which includes information about how specific diseases are handled in Victoria.
For more information about businesses covered by the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, such as hairdressers, beauty therapists and tattooists, see our page about Personal Care & Body Art Businesses.
Public Swimming Pools
Any business that provides a swimming pool or spa as part of their service is required to maintain it in accordance with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009.
Managers of these facilities are responsible for maintaining the environment to prevent disease transmission. Managers must also comply with legislation relating to the storage of dangerous goods and occupational health and safety standards.
The Council monitors public swimming and spa pools to ensure water quality standards meet the Regulations of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
Businesses with public swimming or spa pools, including residential accommodation businesses and prescribed accommodation businesses such as hotels and motels, must register with the Council. We provide helpful information about how to meet health and safety requirements.
Private Water Drinking Supplies
If you run a business that is not connected to town water but requires water for their business, including accommodation businesses, there are rules and regulations that you need to meet regarding water supply.
See our page on Drinking Water for more information.
