The Council has received $141,000 from the Australian Government for eligible landholders to reduce weeds and pests on their land.

The funding is part of the Australian Government’s Communities Combating Pest and Weed Impacts During Drought Program – Biosecurity Management of Pests and Weeds Round 2.’

The first round of funding supported landholders in purchasing chemicals and upskilling landholders in full farm chemical and 1080 training. The funding also assisted in wild dog management.

Mayor, Cr Danny Claridge, said the control of weeds and pests by landholders is important.

“These funds go directly to landholders to help with weed and pest management activities, improving the resilience of agricultural and primary producing areas and enhancing agricultural productivity,” said Cr Claridge.

“We are grateful to the Australian Government for the opportunity to provide financial assistance to landholders to manage weeds and pest.”

The Council is working closely with the Gecko CLaN Landcare Network to administer and deliver funding, training and education to landholders in the Benalla Rural City.
