The Council has allocated a total of $12,000 to arts, entertainment, and community projects, as part of its 2023/24 Major Events Funding program.
As part of the funding, $2,000 was allocated to the Cake Decorators Association of Victoria – Benalla branch and another $2,000 went to the Molyullah Recreation and Public Reserve Committee.
The Cake Decorators Association of Victoria – Benalla branch will use the funding to host the 2024 State Seminar in cake decorating from Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July.
The Molyullah Recreation and Public Hall Reserve received $2,000 for the annual Molyullah Easter Sports, to be held on 1 April 2024. A popular country event that has been held for the past 121 years, the event is a day of traditional country fun, including a woodchop event, dog jumping, three-legged race and egg throwing competition.
Mayor Cr Claridge welcomed the funding allocation, saying “Council’s Major Event Funding Program enables local community groups, clubs, organisations and external event groups to seek up to $2,000 in funding to assist in the staging of events that will provide measurable economic benefit and enhance the image and liveability of Benalla Rural City.”
