Benalla Rural City Council’s 2024/2025 Roadside Weed and Pest Program commenced on Tuesday 15 October 2024, marking the beginning of targeted efforts to control weeds and pests throughout the region.

The program, which will run until June 2025, plays a vital role in protecting the local environment and supporting landowners in curbing the spread of noxious weeds.

The program has delivered positive results in recent years, demonstrating its importance in maintaining healthy landscapes and reducing the impact of invasive species.

Funded under the State Government's Roadside Weeds and Pests Program 2024/2025, with support from the Department of Government Services, this initiative continues to be a crucial part of Council's responsibilities.

While Council’s efforts are pivotal, landowners also play an essential role in weed control. The success of the program relies on landowners managing weeds on their own properties, working in tandem with Council’s broader treatment activities. A collaborative approach will ensure the most effective outcomes for the region.

Council urges the community to report any weed infestations requiring attention to help protect Benalla’s farmlands and natural ecosystems.

Spraying began on 15 October 2024 and will run until June 2025. Residents can report concerns to ensure effective management of public and private lands. For assistance, contact Council’s Customer Service Centre by emailing council@benalla.vic.gov.au or call 03 5760 2600.
