First 2023 Concert at Benalla Art Gallery

Benalla Art Gallery will commence its 2023 concert series with a special performance by Alyce Platt.
An actress who many would be familiar with for her starring role on Sons and Daughters, Platt is also a singer-songwriter and guitarist who has achieved critical acclaim for her original Indie-Pop songs.
In recent years, Alyce began recording a low-fi, quirky, intimate collection of re-imagined songs, which connected with what many people were experiencing during COVID lockdowns.
Recorded daily on her iPhone in the echoes of her bathroom, the recordings were somewhat unexpectedly expanded into her third album - Bain Douche - featuring some of Melbourne’s finest musicians.
At her Benalla Art Gallery show, Alyce will be joined by Clare Moore on vibraphone and Stephen Hadley on bass. The trio will perform songs from across Platt’s catalogue of originals, including the recent Bain Douche album.
The centrepiece of the performance will be the enigmatic Someone’s Daughter - written by Alyce Platt and included in the extraordinary documentary Journey Beyond Fear by local filmmaker Robyn Hughan. Both emotive and heartfelt, Someone’s Daughter is performed with passion and intensity by Alyce, and in the documentary brings home the difficult journey many refugees face from a female perspective.
This live concert is programmed to recognise International Women’s Day, and also coincides with the nightly screening of Platt’s music video Someone’s Daughter on the Benalla Art Gallery external projector throughout March.
Benalla Art Gallery Director, Eric Nash, said “this will be a great event. It’s wonderful to be kicking off our 2023 music program after its return was so well received in 2022. Alyce will bring something very exciting to the table through her unique talents as a singer songwriter. We hope the community come out to enjoy and support this program, and look forward to confirming more concerts in coming months.”
The performance will be on Saturday 11 March, 6pm in the Ledger Gallery.
Tickets are $25 for members, $25 non-members including drink on arrival. Payment must be made on registration.
