L2P 100th license

The 100th person has achieved their probationary driver licence through the L2P Program.

Maddy Burns, 19, completed her mandatory driving practice with L2P mentors and received her probationary licence on Tuesday 15 January 2019.

“I worked with three great mentors during the program. I’d like to thank Laurie, Michael and Kel for their mentorship and for helping me to get my licence,” said Ms Burns.

Driver mentor, Michael Hedderman said Maddy achieving her probationary licence was a special occasion for the L2P Program.

“The Benalla L2P Program is about helping young people get their driver licence as well as helping them to achieve the freedom this milestone brings,” said Mr Hedderman.

The L2P Program is a state-wide program funded by TAC, managed by VicRoads and coordinated by the Council.

The Benalla L2P Program has supported more than 220 learner drivers and provided more than 6,700 supervised driving hours since it began in 2012. The Benalla L2P Program performs 18% better than the state average for learners who complete the program and gain their probationary licence.

Mayor, Cr Scott Upston, said that the Program is an example of how the community is working together.

“Volunteers undergo training to become L2P mentors, meaning they can then support young drivers who are experiencing hardship or difficulty gaining supervised driving hours,” said Cr Upston.

Drivers and mentors use a vehicle made possible by the Program’s major sponsor, Benalla Toyota, along with sponsors Winton Motor Raceway and the Benalla Auto Club.

More information about the L2P program is available from the Council’s Customer Service.
