New citizens welcomed

Three local residents took the Australian Citizenship pledge at a Citizenship Ceremony conducted by the Mayor Cr Don Firth at the Benalla Art Gallery on Thursday 12 July 2018. Making the citizenship pledge were Joni Jones, Lilie Powell and Alex Novoselov.

The new Australians come from the United States, Russian Federation and the Philippines. They invited their friends and families to witness and celebrate their ceremony. President of the North East Multicultural Association, Susan Ingleton, was also in attendance to welcome and present the new citizens with a gift.

“It’s a privilege and an honour to hear the pledges of new citizens of the Commonwealth of Australia,” said Cr Firth.

“Benalla Rural City is very lucky to have a diverse mix of cultures. We warmly welcome our new citizens. Congratulations on choosing our Rural City as your home,” said Cr Firth.
